Advent (which means coming) is a four-week period of celebration and remembrance leading up to Christmas. The four themes of Advent (signified by the lighting of candles) are hope, peace, love, and joy.
In the midst of gift giving, glitter, and overeating, let's use this season to prepare our hearts for the celebration of Jesus' first coming and for the preparation of our hearts for Jesus' imminent second coming.
In the uncertainty of these days we struggle to place our hope in someone (or something). God’s promises are endlessly securing, but can we really rest our hope in him? The story of Advent says “yes”. God has a place in his heart for you to be practically hopeful. As lofty as the promises of God may seem, we can find security in them every day, thanks to the Advent of Jesus Christ.
From classic (even cliche’) bumper stickers to jewelry and t-shirts, peace is a favorite word to promote. Well, of course it is. Peace is what every nation, family and person wants to have in their life. As we approach the wonderful celebration of the birth of Jesus, let’s not only look at this subject of peace, but lets make sure that we all leave with it. We may not be able to bring peace to our family or nation, but as for ourselves, it is up to us.
Some of you live for the Christmas holiday (like my dear Sarah); others live for this holiday to be over (you know who you are). Either way, we’ll see this morning why Christmas is the greatest holiday. In just one verse we can appreciate the greatest-ness of this holiday as we celebrate the remarkable love of God from John 3:16.

We are seemingly surrounded by loss, uncertainty and failures. However, it is not just today, it is the way the world has always been. The world is full of false promises of joy and the great news is that an angel of the Lord came saying "Do not be afraid. I bring you good news of great joy that will be for all the people" (Luke 2:10). Let’s take a few minutes and examine three particular dynamics of God's joy.
24 December Hmm, may or may not be posted. We will see.
We finally come to Christmas Eve. This evening is arguably, both sacred and secular, the most recognized holiday on the year. We come and sit.. with nearly a sensory overload. Enjoy the beautiful lights, festive faces, families, beautiful Christmas carols sung, and the marvelous story of Jesus read. Amidst all of this evenings pageantry, let's clarify beauty incanant, Jesus Christ, our savior.
