What exactly do Christians mean when they talk about the “gospel of Jesus Christ”? Since the word “gospel” means “good news,” when Christians talk about the gospel, they’re simply telling the good news about Jesus. It’s a message of hope from God saying, “Good news! I love you and have sent my son Jesus to save you from judgement.”
The Bible tells us that we can know for sure that we have this hope of eternal life with God. In 1 John 5:13, it says, "I write these things to you...that you may know that you have eternal life.” If you don’t yet have this assurance, read on how you can be certain today.
No amount of personal effort, good works, or religious deeds can earn a place in heaven. Eternal life with God is offered as a free gift.
"For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life in Christ Jesus our Lord." —Romans 6:23

"For by grace you have been saved through faith. And this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God, not a result of works, so that no one may boast.” —Ephesians 2:8–9
If you wanted to save yourself by good deeds, the Bible says you would have to be perfect. The problem? Every person who has ever lived has missed God's standard of perfection. We have all sinned and we cannot save ourselves.
“For all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God..." —Romans 3:23
"For whoever keeps the whole law but fails in one point has become guilty of all of it.” —James 2:10
God is merciful and therefore doesn’t want to punish us. However, the same Bible tells that God is just and therefore must punish sin.
Left to ourselves, we are in a completely hopeless situation and are destined to an eternity without God.
"God is love." —1 John 4:8b
“he will by no means clear the guilty" —Exodus 34:7b
God balanced justice and love through His Son, Jesus Christ. Jesus is the infinite God-man, God in the flesh. He died on the cross and rose from the dead to pay the penalty for our sins and to purchase a place for us in heaven.

Saving faith is not merely intellectual assent; it is trusting in Jesus Christ alone for salvation. It means resting upon Jesus and what He has done rather than what we can do to get to heaven.
Faith is trusting in Jesus alone for eternal life.

The Bible says that “...everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved,” (Romans 10:13). You can do that now by simply praying:
Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and do not deserve eternal life, but I believe you died and rose from the grave to purchase a place in heaven for me. Jesus, come into my life, take control of my life,

Lord Jesus, I know I am a sinner and do not deserve eternal life, but I believe you died and rose from the grave to purchase a place in heaven for me. Jesus, come into my life, take control of my life, forgive my sins, and save me. I am now placing my trust in you alone for my salvation, and I accept your free gift of eternal life.
If this prayer is the sincere desire of your heart, look at the promise of Jesus: "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in me has eternal life." —John 6:47
